Closing: 11/6/2021 Salary: $14.09 hourly rate Job Summary: This is moderately heavy manual work which involves routine housekeeping and domestic tasks of various buildings. Primary responsibilities include the use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for buildings and equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Foreman, and work is reviewed through meetings, reports, observations, and obtained results. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: All employees share components of leadership, management, technical, and team skills to assist in making the City of Largo the community of choice in Tampa Bay. Leadership * Demonstrates an understanding and reflection of the City's mission, vision, and values and a commitment to achieve organizational goals aligned with the City's strategic plan * Champions a high performance work culture that encourages and embraces new ideas, develops individuals and welcomes and encourages diverse perspectives * Articulates strategic and innovative thinking and provides clarity to deliver superior services * Approaches the job with enthusiasm and curiosity to promote a solutions-oriented work culture Management * Effectively manages assignments and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of projects, tasks, and responsibilities * Follows suggested procedures to assure the highest standards of risk management, employee safety and risk avoidance Technical * Scrubs, mops, waxes, and polishes floors; vacuums, shampoos, and spot-cleans carpets * Sweeps and cleans sidewalks, porches, and front entrances * Changes trash and refuse containers; takes trash to specified locations for disposal * Washes windows and woodwork * Cleans tables in eating areas, kitchen areas, and cleans and polishes furniture * Cleans and disinfects restrooms and fixtures, telephones, and water fountains * Dusts shelves, wall hangings, blinds, fans, and light fixtures and replaces light bulbs * Performs minor repair work * Sprays for bugs and other insects * May move office furniture and equipment as directed * Picks up debris around buildings * Assists in loading and unloading equipment * Assists in rigging of stage equipment and props * Assists in floor plan set-ups and take-downs for events * Operates room dividers and adjusts seating Team Skills * Supports honest and transparent decision-making * Collaborates with all team members in a way that builds upon ideas and takes personal accountability and ownership of projects, roles, and assignments * Openly exhibits a positive attitude, in words and action, and encourages others to do the same Performs related work as required. EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: * High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) * One year of experience in custodial work or past experience as City of Largo temporary or summer custodian * A basic reading and writing assignment will be part of the interview process * Valid Florida Driver's License or from another state for transfer within 30 days of hire Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Knowledge of the materials, chemicals, methods and equipment typically used in janitorial work * Ability to read, write and speak English * Ability to learn the duties of a custodian * Ability to understand and follow simple instructions * Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to cleaning equipment * Ability to perform heavy manual routine custodial tasks * Ability to work on ladders and off the ground WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work Environment: 80% inside a climate controlled building. 20% outside which may include driving. Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately thirty (30) minutes per day, standing or walking approximately 7.5 hours per day. The work requires frequent bending/stooping, climbing (stairs and ladder), crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, and occasional lifting/carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; with frequent lifting/carrying objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds (recycling bins, etc.). On rare occasions the work requires lifting/carrying objects weighing over 50 pounds. Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, and ability to detect specific noises and the proper equipment operation. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone, and to be able to acknowledge instructions. Seeing: Ability to operate a vehicle, read fine print, and determine when rooms are clean. Driving Requirements: The work requires driving and possession of a valid Florida Driver's License. Technology: The work requires ability to operate telephones, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and/or laptop computers, calculators and all associated software. Other Machines: The work requires the ability to operate the following machines: buffers, automatic scrubbers, carpet cleaner, vacuums, and heavy duty cleaning machines.
