REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for overall management and supervision of the Health Services Department in addition to clinical responsibilities as described in the School Nurse job description. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.


Program Leadership and Management
Coordinate the delivery of all student health services for the RE-1 School District. Supervise all health services staff including hiring, training, evaluation, and approval for absences and professional development. Oversee budget planning, acquisition, and distribution of nursing supplies and equipment. Implement and monitor district policy and protocols related to student health, school clinics and nursing standards. Recommend policy changes based on evidence-based recommendations. Ensure all school health services programs meet RE-1 and Colorado Department of Education health standards. Develop protocols and procedures to address mandated school-based screenings. Coordinate vision/hearing screenings, dental screenings, and shot clinics for the district schools. Ensure school nurses and associated school-based teams are compliant with the development and implementation of health-care action plans as well as IEPs and 504s that include health elements. Ensure the district is compliant with all required health related reporting including, but not limited to immunization compliance, health screenings, state immunization compliance rate and year-end data reports. Provide leadership in the implementation of the District Wellness Policy. Provide leadership in the management of the School Health Services (Medicaid) Program.
School Nursing
Serve as the school nurse for Lewis and Pleasant View, including consulting on student health needs/plans, coordinating health screenings, immunizations, etc. Serve as school health consultant for district charter schools, including onboarding and advising charter school nurses on requirements and best practices for school-based health programs.
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the District-wide representative on various county-wide teams and collaborative groups which support student health and safety. Establish and maintain a relationship with the Consulting Physician. Act as a member of the District Leadership team adding nursing/medical perspective to strategic planning and development, carrying out Leadership Team priorities with nursing personnel. Communicate with community entities regarding health advisories. Develop a district-wide health emergency response plan and oversee implementation. Provide professional and consistent reports and data on the health services provided to the district administrators and school board, and to community entities as needed.
Health Support Training
Coordinate trainings for non-medically trained staff members in CPR/First Aid/AED training and medication administration. Provide consultation and training as indicated to transportation providers regarding health emergencies on the bus. Provided clinical expertise and guidance to building principals/school nurses for specific clinical problems especially in the area of Individuals with Disabilities Act (Least Restrictive Environment) and Americans with Disabilities Act (Section 504).
Perform other duties as assigned

Bachelor of Science/Registered Nurse required. Masters degree preferred. 3 years previous managerial or leadership experience in a health care environment preferred. Public health or school health experience preferred Pediatric nursing experience recommended. Skill Requirements Basic experience with current technology including use of the student data base and computer skills with Word, Excel, and E-mail Knowledge of CDE Essential School Health Guidelines Knowledge and experience in supervision Effective communication Willingness to observe and comply with District policies and procedures Ability to manage several projects and endeavors at the same time Maintains a generally positive attitude Flexibility Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors and co-workers, and community partners/stakeholders
Current Colorado School Nurse License (CDE) or eligible for same (will be required to obtain). Current CPR/AED/First Aid
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $46,610-$50,112

ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:Working in school-based settings. Expect exposure to community-acquired illnesses, childhood illnesses, body fluids and blood-borne pathogens. Some noise, odors. Some driving to different buildings to provide health-related services expected.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Occasional lifting of up to 30 Lbs. Frequent sitting and typing.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:Makes hiring and termination recommendations, reviews performance, directs and schedules work assignments for school nurses. Assists with accountability for the Medicaid Program.
