The Economic Self Sufficiency Specialist I position may be perfect for you. JOB DESCRIPTION: The primary function of an Economic Self Sufficiency Specialist I involves determining the eligibility of applicants and recipients for public assistance programs, including food assistance, Medicaid and temporary cash assistance. The duties of an ESSI include analyzing a broad range of documentation and entering data into a computer-based eligibility system while adhering to time sensitive agency deadlines. The majority of the workday is spent gathering data from the client by phone and their on-line application and entering it into the FLORIDA system. ESSIs are responsible for calculating and authorizing monthly benefit amounts based on financial information and household composition. This is a very challenging position in a high volume, production based environment and requires a flexible team player with strong multitasking skills. ESSIs are expected to handle a large volume of work and be flexible to change at any moment. The starting salary for this career service position will be $26,540.54 annually . Positions will be located in Tampa, Largo, Sarasota and Fort Myers. Your application will be reviewed to determine if you meet the minimum requirements for the position. Eligible applicants will be contacted via email to participate in a work sample, and must attain a passing score on the work sample to be interviewed for the position. The work sample includes math/reading comprehension, computer skills and typing skills. If hired for this position, you will attend a Pre-service training and study the policy and regulations that govern our public assistance programs. During training you will be tested on this material and must have a passing score on each assessment to continue employment. All applicants must have the ability to attend virtual training. Virtual training requires the ability to successfully navigate a desktop or laptop computer, have a working built-in or external webcam and microphone, have internet access, and have a work space free of interruptions. All applicants must be highly proficient in their computer navigation and typing skills, and able to work independently in order to successfully complete the Pre-service training and be successful in the position. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for the position an applicant must have an Associate degree or 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college. Equivalent experience where the major responsibility was conducting interviews, recruiting, determining eligibility, conducting investigations, processing claims, billing or collecting accounts, checking credit, processing insurance policies or claims, or providing customer service in a lead/supervisory position on a full time basis can substitute on a year for year basis for the required education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: + Apply the policies, procedures, and programs governing the agency. + Apply the laws, rules, and regulations governing eligibility and grant determination for multiple public assistance programs and the case administration of these programs. + Communicate with others to obtain and verify information concerning eligibility. + Detect and evaluate potential fraudulent situations. + Analyze and interpret written, numerical, and verbal data from various sources. + Be detail oriented and enter data accurately into a computerized system. + Navigate through computer screens, and complete and review basic computer documents and other forms. + Plan and organize to ensure work is completed in accordance with regulations relating to eligibility and timeliness. + Read, understand, apply complicated and detailed regulations, and policy directives. + Perform a variety of mathematical computations accurately and rapidly. + Prepare clear, concise and accurate records and other documentation. + Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the public and staff. + Be proficient in the use of the computer including exceptional typing skills. + Follow written and oral directions and instructions. THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST ALSO: + Possess excellent customer service skills and enjoy dealing with the public. + Follow a set schedule and be flexible to the needs of the agency. + Be comfortable working in a large, open office environment. + Have the ability to problem solve and make decisions. + Demonstrate a high level of independence and initiative. + Display a strong work ethic and positive attitude. + Be willing to work as part of a team. + Have the ability to effectively communicate and convey ideas and thoughts. BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: It is the policy of the Florida Department of Children and Families that any applicant being considered for employment must successfully complete a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and, if applicable be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S., and Chapter 408, F.S.
